The Relais de la Malmaison beehives

While the tourism industry is often criticized for its environmental footprint, the Relais de la Malmaison is a concrete example of how it is possible to reconcile a prestigious hotel with respect for the environment. Located just twenty minutes from the center of Paris, our establishment benefits from an exceptional green setting. So it's only natural that we should do all we can to preserve it and limit our environmental footprint. Far from being a constraint, these initiatives often turn out to be a real pleasure. Our beehives are the best example of this!
An apiary at the hotel
As we now know, bees, like all other pollinators, are a key element in the long chain of life. Numerous studies and experiments have shown that they are capable of adapting to an urban or semi-urban context as long as they have sufficient food within reach. At Relais de la Malmaison, the two-hectare park, planted with lime and acacia trees and flowers of all kinds, provides an ideal setting for their development. The adjacent Bluegreen golf course in Rueil-Malmaison is also a peaceful place for them to forage. That's why our five beehives have been thriving for almost ten years.
Advice from a specialist
To manage our apiary, we called on the services of a professional beekeeper, Eric Valageas. Trained at the veterinary school, he devotes his life to the well-being of bees and the production of honey and products derived from the hive. This collaboration enables our bees to thrive and live in peace on the estate. It's also thanks to this happy association that you can enjoy our thousand-flower honey on your breakfast table. This sweet honey is marked by the subtlety of lime blossom and acacia, and nuanced by the thousand scents of the wide variety of flowers our bees gather up to three kilometers from the hotel. What a pleasure it is to enjoy a slice of fresh bread and honey in the calm of the Relais de la Malmaison hotel terrace! It's hard to believe that the heart of Paris is only twenty minutes away...
A set of commitments
The Relais de la Malmaison team always takes great pleasure in talking about our hives and our collaboration with Eric Valageas. So, during your stay, don't hesitate to ask us questions about this approach and the life of our bees. However, our beehives are only a small part of the environmental commitments we've been making for years. For example, our park is home to plants that absorb hydrocarbons. In a highly urbanized area such as the inner suburbs of Paris, they represent a real plus in the fight against pollution. We have also installed a rainwater recovery system. This enables us to water the park without having to use water resources. So you can enjoy the lawns and beautiful green spaces without a guilty conscience. Last but not least, we have integrated our environmental approach into the day-to-day running of the hotel, working to limit energy consumption and promote zero waste. Our team will be happy to provide you with further information.
As well as being a real pleasure, the beehives at Le Relais de la Malmaison are a true symbol of our commitment to preserving the environment. Our establishment is a true haven of nature in a highly urbanized area, and we want to preserve the exceptional quality of life you enjoy every time you stay with us.
